WATERTOWN 鈥 Watertown鈥檚 boys emerged from a grind-it-out defensive struggle Monday with a 31-16 win over Livingston Academy in the consolation bracket of the THW Christmas Tournament.
Despite the low score, the Purple Tigers were in control of the contest throughout the afternoon, leading 11-6 at the first-quarter break, 19-10 at halftime and 22-13 going into the fourth.
Conner Parkerson led all scorers with nine points for the Purple Tigers while Cayden Clark scored six, Devon Brown and Carlos Shannon four each, Dacio Carter and Clay Hawkins three apiece and Braylin Caruthers two.
No one scored in double figures for Livingston.
Watertown, which played in the fifth-place game yesterday, fell into the consolation bracket with a 53-41 loss to South Doyle last Saturday.
The teams were tied 10-10 following the first quarter before South Doyle edged in front 19-17 by halftime. The Cherokees opened a 37-28 margin going into the fourth.
Jonah Smith scored 15 points and Fisher Jacobs 10 as each hit two 3-pointers for South Doyle.
Parkerson paced the Purple Tigers with 11 points while Clark and Caruthers each scored six, Shannon and Carter four apiece and Brown a 3.
Blue Devils blast off against RocketsCHAPEL HILL 鈥 Lebanon鈥檚 boys had a merry first day of the Forrest Christmas Classic on Monday with a 76-30 romp past the host Rockets.
The Blue Devils led 22-11 after one period and 43-18 at halftime.
Marques Anglin led Lebanon with 22 points primarily from the post while point guard Amaure Manier threw in three 3-pointers on his way to 17. Elliott Greer scored seven points. John Binion and Owen Kohler connected on two triples apiece as they and T.J. Searcy scored six each.Omari Carter and Markhail Anglin each added three and Zay Anglin, Maddox Warrick and Evan Klemm two apiece.
No one scored in double figures for Forrest.
The Blue Devils returned yesterday to take on Gleason in a matinee. They will host Hendersonville next Tuesday as the District 7-4A grind resumes.
Wilson Central surrenders fourth-quarter lead to Stewarts Creek
GALLATIN 鈥 Stewarts Creek鈥檚 boys scored 33 points in the fourth quarter Monday to wipe out a Wilson Central lead and beat the Wildcats 64-55 in the Liberty Creek Edmonton State Shootout.
London Nelson nailed three 3-pointers during his 13-point fourth quarter while his Red Hawk teammates combined to hit 11 of 16 free throws down the stretch.
Central led 17-9 at the first-quarter break, 26-22 at halftime and 40-31 going into the fourth before Stewarts Creek flipped the script.
Sean Goggins sank all seven of his free throws in leading Stewarts Creek with 22 points while Nelson notched all 20 of his tallies after halftime. Jerry Taylor added 11 points.
Grafton Graves dropped in two third-quarter triples and led Central with 15 points while Lane Ayars added 11. Cooper Jones and Ross Perlick each added eight, Colton McClellan seven, Ethan Ragland four free throws and Zai Humes two.
Wilson Central opened the Shootout last Saturday with a 64-54 setback to Christ Presbyterian.
The Lions roared to a 16-6 first-quarter lead, 30-15 at halftime and 45-26 through three.
Ayden Glenn totaled 21 points, Ben Freije 18 and Jack Van Orman 10 as each hit two 3-pointers for CPA. Glenn was 11-of-14 from the free-throw line with all but two attempts and one make coming in the fourth quarter.
Ethan Ragland racked up five triples in leading Wilson Central with 16 points while Grafton Graves fired in 14. Colton McClellan notched nine points, Ross Perlick eight, Cooper Jones six and Eli Hawkins a free throw.
Green Hill wins Willie Brown 鈥65 opener, fall in semis
NASHVILLE鈥 Green Hill advanced in the Willie Brown 鈥65 tournament last Saturday with a 53-35 first-round win over Clarksville at Father Ryan.
The Hawks led 12-2 at the first-quarter break, 27-10 at halftime and 44-23 through three.
Christian Bright buried a pair of 3-pointers to pace Green Hill with 18 points. Mason Bates buried three triples as he and Jaylen Searcy each scored 11. Josh Brown bottomed out two triples in the third quarter for his six. Davion Moore had a three-point play and Hayden Sheehey and Leyton Plummer two apiece.
No one scored in double figures for Clarksville.
Green Hill followed with a 58-53 loss to host Father Ryan in Monday鈥檚 semifinal round.
Ryan led 9-4 following the first quarter, 24-13 at halftime and 41-30 through three periods.
Mike Fisch fired in four 3-pointers as he and Josh Williams scored 18 points apiece for the Irish. Tyler Bemerman tossed in 10, all in the fourth quarter.
Bright led Central with 18 points while Jack McChurch tossed in 12 and Searcy 10. Sheehey scored seven, Bates four and Plummer two, all in the second half.
