WATERTOWN 鈥 Watertown鈥檚 girls rebounded into the win column of the THW Christmas Tournament with a 54-46 win over Clarkrange on Monday.
The Tigerettes fell into the consolation bracket with a 47-44 come-from-ahead loss to Warren County last Saturday.
Clarkrange led 15-12 at the first-quarter break before Watertown edged in front 23-22 by halftime. The Lady Purple Tigers built a seven-point lead midway though the third quarter before forward Macie Brelje left with an injury. The Lady Buffaloes closed the gap to one point before Watertown re-opened the margin back to 38-33 going into the fourth.
Dailey Hight had all 11 of her Watertown-high points in the second half, including seven in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers repeatedly broke free for easy transition baskets to pull away.
Izzie Burns tossed in 10 for the Lady Tigers while Molly Followill added eight in the first half, including six in the first quarter. Maddie Willard sank 6 of 8 free throws on her way to eight. Brelje and Julianna Pruitt each put in six, Brylee Bowers four and Larkin Cherry two free throws.
Lydia Phillips turned in a game-high 21, including two triples, to lead the Lady Buffaloes.
Against Warren County, the Lady Tigers led 11-8 at the first-quarter break, 22-15 at halftime and 39-29 through three before the Lady Pioneers used an 18-5 fourth quarter to overtake the hosts.
Aubrey Oleksip and Addison Steakley scored 10 points apiece for the Lady Pioneers as they combined to go 6-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth.
Brelje led all scorers with 18 points for the Purple Tigers while Willard tossed in two triples on her way to 11. Followill finished with eight, Hight five and Tatum Estes two free throws.
Watertown played for fifth place yesterday and will travel to Trousdale County at 6 p.m. Friday.
McDonald鈥檚 20 leads Lebanon to Hoopfest first-round winFRANKLIN 鈥 Lebanon rolled to a 58-43 win over Lawrence County in the opening round of the Music City Hoopfest hosted by Page on Monday.
Playing in the Red Bracket, the Devilettes led 29-17 following the first quarter and 46-27 at halftime.
Elle Beth McDonald dropped in four 3-pointers in leading Lebanon with 20 points while forward Tramaria Neal muscled in 13 to go with seven rebounds.
Naleiya Withrow-Walker notched nine points while Carleigh Barrett bagged a pair of 3s for six. Tiara spencer passed for seven assists and had five deflections as she and Maggie Kelley scored five points apiece.
No one scored in double figures for Lawrence County.
Lebanon played in the semifinals last night with the championship on tap for noon tomorrow.
Lady Bears open Hoopfest by win over Pickett County
FRANKLIN 鈥 Mt. Juliet opened the Music City Hoopfest on Monday with a 55-47 win over Pickett County at Page.
Playing in the Blue Bracket, the Lady Bears fell behind 8-4 in the first quarter and 20-19 at halftime before moving ahead 37-32 going into the fourth,
Addy Osborne led the Lady Bears with 14 points while Aaliyah Holman hit 6 of 8 free throws on her way to nine. Claire Emery scored seven points, Makayla Hopson six, Sophia McGresham and Ryleigh Clayton four apiece, Marissa Hopson a 3-pointer and Isabella Craig two foul shots.
Zoey Nicholas nailed two triples in turning in a game-high 22 for Pickett County.
Lady 鈥楥ats crush White House, Macon County
GALLATIN 鈥 Wilson Central opened the Liberty Creek Edmonton State Shootout last Saturday by shooting down White House 55-16.
The Lady Wildcats led 21-0 at the first-quarter break and 34-2 at halftime.
Kylie Moss led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points and nine steals while Brylee Fly notched nine points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Freedom Pfeil supplied six assists as she and Olivia Kinning each added eight points while Ellie Ramsey finished with five points, Riley Mirghavami four and Annie Wilson, Callie Mirghavami, Madison Jackson and Alexis Jackson two each.
It took a little longer Monday for Wilson Central as the Lady Wildcats gradually broke open a close contest into a 63-36 win over Macon County.
The Lady Wildcats widened an 11-8 first-quarter lead to 29-19 by halftime before blowing it open to 42-27 going into the fourth.
Pfeil led the Lady Wildcats with 17 points while Fly finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ramsey racked up 13 points and seven assists while Moss finished with five points, Riley Mirghavami four, Haidyn Burnley four and Wilson and Kiley Jo Byrom two each.
