On Monday, license plate readers alerted Lebanon Police to a red Ford F150 reported stolen from Ashland City in Cheatham County, leading to theft charges for the driver.
The Ford was located at the Speedway gas station located on Murfreesboro Road in the afternoon hours. Officers made contact with the driver, Jerry Smith Jr., 47, from Cheatham County. LPD says Smith was allegedly in possession of what is believed to be fentanyl and cocaine.
Additionally, Smith had a felony larceny warrant out of Ashland City. Officers took Smith into custody without incident and booked him into the Wilson County Jail. He’s charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a revoked license, property theft and two counts of drug possession. He’s being held on a $6,000 bond.
Last Thursday, Feb. 5, LPD officers reportedly recognized a wanted felon driving on Hartmann Drive and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Orlando Steverson, 43, pulled into the Bay’s Bread parking lot but allegedly attempted to flee in his vehicle. Police say he was unable to find an exit from the lot.
After LPD’s brief parking lot vehicle pursuit, Steverson reportedly attempted to flee on foot by jumping a fence, but was apprehended by officers not long after. He was arrested and charged with a felony count of evading, one misdemeanor count of evading, simple drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Steverson was on parole for prior offenses.
Court records show the multiple times Steverson has interacted with law enforcement. In April 2014, Steverson pled guilty to a lesser charge in a February 2007 murder case. He also pled guilty for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon in 2009. He was charged in March 2024 for domestic assault and false imprisonment; however, the case was dismissed for failure to prosecute.
LPD says his parole had previously been violated in 2025 after fleeing from another LPD traffic stop. He is scheduled for arraignment in Wilson County General Sessions for arraignment on Feb. 18.
On Sunday, Feb. 1, a woman was charged with five counts of animal cruelty after police responded to a residence on Cainsville Road regarding reports of a deceased dog found in a kennel in the backyard of the property.
Four other dogs still living were found on the property, and the city’s Animal Control Division responded to the scene. According to LPD, initial findings indicate the dog passed away due to below-freezing temperatures. Investigators also found there was no heat or food source for any of the dogs, and any water present was frozen.
Police charged Angela Hall, 66, with five counts of animal cruelty. LPD says the investigation remains open.
The surviving dogs were signed over to Animal Control custody, and officers are working to assess the dogs’ health and behavior. An LPD spokesperson says the department is hopeful the dogs will find their way into loving, permanent homes.
Also on Feb. 1, LPD responded to a home in the Head Homes neighborhood after receiving a call regarding two males attempting to steal a bicycle from the caller’s backyard.
During the investigation, Javaris Stigall, 20, allegedly attempted to leave the scene despite officers giving verbal commands to stay in place. According to police, after a brief struggle, he was detained, and officers discovered he was in possession of a handgun allegedly stolen in Haralson County, Georgia.
Stigall was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
