GEODIS Logistics, LLC has informed the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) that the Mt. Juliet location will be closing, resulting in 40 employees being laid off.
The location at 549A Aldi Boulevard is expected to shut operations down on July 31, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed with TDLWD.
The Northern Middle Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team will oversee dislocated worker services for the 40 employees. County officials said resources will also be available to the workers, which are expected to find other employment quickly in the county.
In May, the unemployment rate for Wilson County was reported as 2.7%, and Corey Johns, Joint Economic & Community Development Board of Wilson County Executive Director said there are many job opportunities in Wilson County.
GEODIS is a logistics and transport company that operates globally with several locations in Wilson County. A statement released by the company said the reason for the closure is due to a customer ceasing business at the Mt. Juliet facility. The notice was filed with the TDLWD on June 9.
A memorandum released by the TDLWD said the employees are not represented by a collective bargaining agreement.
