Last Tuesday marked the official groundbreaking for the expansion at the water treatment plant at 192 Spring Creek Road in Lafayette.
Officials say the expansion will not only double the water supply for the area, it has the distinction of being some of the cleanest water around.
“The city has been working on getting this done for quite some time now,†said Mayor Tony Day. “This expansion will double our ability to provide quality clean water for everyone. The people here at the water treatment plant are very good at what they do, so this will help them better serve the people as well.â€
“We have a great facility here and proud that we use few chemicals in the treatment process here,†said Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator Dustin Jones. “We use chlorine gas, aluminum salt, and hydrated lime, and that is it. I am proud to say that we have some of the cleanest water available. We are responsible for providing clean water for not only everyone else and their families, but our own families as well. It is clean and safe for consumption.â€
The expansion will include new treatment facilities as well as a new four-million-gallon tank that will replace the two-million-gallon tank in use currently. The new facilities are expected to be up and running in 2026.
