State Representative Clark Boyd, R-Lebanon, was recently recognized as one of the most effective legislators in the Tennessee House of Representatives for the first session of the 114th General Assembly.
Boyd achieved a 73% bill passage rate with 11 signed into law by Governor Bill Lee. Some of the bills he sponsored included initiatives to reform Tennessee’s correctional system, create innovation for nuclear energy and improve public health in Wilson County.
A law sponsored by Boyd and recently signed will require 10% of a private prison’s population to be transferred to a Tennessee Department of Correction prison if the death rate is double that of an equivalent state-operated prison.
“Republican legislators worked hard this session to keep Tennessee thriving,†Boyd said. “I’m honored to receive this recognition and I’m grateful to my colleagues for their support. I look forward to continuing to work with residents of Wilson County to make our community an even better place to live and raise a family.â€
Another law unanimously passed in the General Assembly will allow local legislative bodies to provide property tax relief to nonprofit organizations which provide housing assistance to low-income households. The housing units must utilize at least 30% of space for veterans experiencing homelessness.
