The Independence Day holiday weekend was still active for the Mt. Juliet Police Department, which arrested several individuals and rescued a dog and her puppy in the process.
On Saturday, July 5, a vehicle was stopped on Interstate 40 for speeding. The passenger, a 37-year-old Nashville man, was found to be wanted out of Macon County for allegedly cashing 11 fraudulent checks, other forgery and theft of U.S. government property. Authorities say he had been wanted since 2019.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Wilson County Jail. His identity was not immediately released.
During the overnight hours between Saturday and Sunday, officers were dispatched to a crime in progress as a person allegedly stole $500 worth of merchandise at the Mt. Juliet Walmart in a single, large tote.
Upon arrival, officers blocked the vehicle, driven by Kevin Keese, 61, of Madison, as it attempted to flee the parking lot. When he was arrested, police say Keese was also in possession of cocaine in addition to the stolen goods.
He was booked into the Wilson County Jail and charged with simple drug possession, theft of merchandise, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary and bringing contraband into jail.
Sunday afternoon, license plate readers detected a Honda Accord, reported stolen out of Nashville on July 3, as it entered Mt. Juliet via I-40 and traveled down Belinda Parkway. MJPD launched a pursuit prevention plan to intercept the vehicle.
Officers located the car at a business on Belinda Parkway, and moved to block the vehicle as the driver attempted to leave. The driver, Robert Hargrove, 62, of Nashville, was taken into custody.
According to police, Hargrove blamed the car’s owner for leaving it unlocked and leaving the keys inside. Allegedly, Hargrove said that’s why he took it. Police said Hargrove was also driving on a revoked license. He was booked into the Wilson County Jail.
A Lebanon woman was arrested Sunday evening after fleeing a traffic stop. An officer was patrolling I-40 when he encountered a license plate associated with Samantha Lewis, 28, who was wanted out of Wilson County for a probation violation warrant associated with a DUI.
Lewis was said to have initially pulled over before suddenly speeding away as the MJPD officer approached her car. Officers decided to monitor the vehicle from a distance rather than engaging in a pursuit. She was tracked to the Kroger on Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage.
Police reports say Lewis attempted to call another ride in as a decoy, but the getaway vehicle was blocked by officers and Lewis was taken into custody. She was charged with felony evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, simple drug possession and the aforementioned probation violation.
Also on Sunday, license plate readers detected a stolen Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, reported out of Lafayette, Georgia, traveling along Central Pike. Officers also used a pursuit prevention plan, intercepting the Chevy as it traveled rather than chasing it.
Police say the truck ran out of gas at the entrance of TriStar Summit Medical Center. Officers moved in and detained the driver, Daniel Foster, 40, of Rossville, Georgia. According to records, he was wanted out of Catoosa County, Georgia, for a probation violation warrant related to participating in a riot.
Passengers of the truck, an adult female dog and her puppy, were checked out and safely released to a woman at the scene.
