Samuel Strong/Tennessee AthleticsFormer Mt. Juliet pitcher Austin Hunley has entered the transfer portal after three seasons as a Tennessee Vol.

He will leave Knoxville with a 3-0 career record and a 4.42 earned-run average in 20 relief appearances over two seasons after redshirting in 2023. He logged 18 1/3 innings with five walks, 17 strikeouts and a .297 batting average against. Perhaps most importantly, he has a national championship ring from 2024.
This past season he went 2-0 in 12 appearances, covering 9 2/3 innings with four walks and 12 strikeouts. He did not pitch in an SEC game in 鈥25.
As a Golden Bear, he went 7-0 with a 0.69 ERA as a senior in 2022, posting 99 strikeouts and just seven walks in 50 2/3 innings. As a junior in 鈥21, he was 5-1 with a 0.68 ERA, 45 Ks, six BBs in 31 innings.
His older brother, Sean, starred as a reliever for the Vols before being selected in the 19th round of the 2021 MLB draft by Tampa Bay.
Sean Hunley remains with the Rays organization, having reached Triple-A apparently to stay this season after a couple cups of coffee in recent years while mastering Double-A hitters with the Southern League鈥檚 Montgomery Biscuits. Now with the International League鈥檚 Durham Bulls, he is 2-2 with a 3.62 ERA in 13 relief appearances covering 27 1/3 innings. He picked up his only save of the season April 24 as close to his hometown as possible as he pitched the eighth inning of a scheduled seven-inning contest in the second game of a doubleheader, a 9-7 Durham win over the Nashville Sounds at First Horizon Park.
