Dixie May Presley Gregory passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the age of 91 years, four months and 13 days.
Born March 9, 1934, in Hartsville, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of the late Huey Mack Presley and Mettie May Presley.
Dixie was saved and baptized as a child and remained a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church throughout her life. Her faith was the steady foundation upon which she built a life of purpose, love, and hard work.
Dixie married the love of her life, L.C. “Pete†Gregory and together they were blessed with one daughter. Their home was filled with love, laughter and a strong sense of family values that Dixie held dear.
In addition to her dear husband and parents, Dixie was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bud Presley, Junior Presley, Bob Presley and Twin Brother Dennis Presley; and sisters, Frances Presley and Mary Lee Johnson.
She spent many years working as an inspector at Texas Boot in Hartsville, where she was known for her attention to detail and dependable work ethic. But Dixie’s work didn’t stop there. A true country woman at heart, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—spending her time on the farm, tending to her flowers, and mowing her yard with pride.
She often referred to herself as a “busy little beaver,†a nickname that perfectly captured her tireless spirit and hands-on approach to life. She thrived in staying active and productive, and she found joy in the everyday tasks that others might overlook. Though she has left this earthly life, Dixie’s legacy of faith, love, and hard work will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be dearly missed but her memory will be treasured always.
Dixie is survived by her daughter, Sarah Burton and husband, Earl; grandsons, Earl Neal Burton Jr. and wife, Maria and Jeremy Ray Burton; great-Grandson, Austin Burton; great-granddaughter, Lexie Burton; and sister, Hettie “Susie†Gasser.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 25, 2025, from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Jeff Blackwell officiating. Interment followed in The Nelson McDonald Cemetery.
Chris Shelton, Todd Johnson, Jerry Burton, Neal Burton, Jeremy Burton, Austin Burton and Earl Gregroy served as pallbearers.
