The annual Tobacco Bowl Jamboree will take place Aug. 15 on the Creekbank.
The action will get underway at 6 p.m. with Friendship Christian taking on White House. The Commanders are led by Coach John McNeil who is entering his 37th year coaching high school football, all but three of those years have been with the green and gold.
The Commanders went 6-4 last year and lost 35-28 in the second round of the Div. II-A playoffs to DCA.
Under center for the Commanders will be junior quarterback Blake Waldorf who passed for over 2,500 yards in 2024 at Watertown. But, the player that the college scouts are interested is junior lineman Kaden Buchanon (6-5, 295) who has drawn the attention of some SEC schools including Kentucky and Missouri.
The boys from Possum Town are believed to have enough talent to make it to the championship game in Chattanooga.
Trousdale County will open its regular season on Aug. 22 at Friendship Christian.
In the second “gameâ€, Clay County will face the DeKalb County junior varsity at 7 p.m.
The Clay County Bulldogs are an overwhelming favor to win there region, but may be in somewhat of a rebuilding mode as they lost eight seniors from last year’s team including quarterback Nate Adams who was a Mr. Football finalist.
The Bulldogs went 10-3 in 2024 losing in the 1A quarterfinals 49-13 to South Pittsburg. The Bulldogs will come to Hartsville to face the Jackets on Sept. 19.
At 8 p.m. the Trousdale County Yellow Jackets will compete against the DeKalb County Tigers.
The Tigers are a 4A team and are coming off a 6-4 season last year.
As for the Jackets, they will put a young but talented team on the field this season. They only have three seniors on their squad and will need several underclassmen to step up and play key roles.
“The jamboree is another opportunity for our guys to get out there and compete!†TCHS Coach Kyle Gregory said. “I’m looking for us to show improvement on the things we have been working on. The jamboree is our last live look before the season kicks off, so I’m looking for us to play a clean two quarters preparing us for week one.â€
