Phillip Douglas Dickerson, 71, of the Cato community, Trousdale County, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Born April 30, 1954, to the late Ralph and Rebecca Dickerson, Phillip was raised in the close-knit Cato community where his values of faith, family and hard work were deeply rooted.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Martha Dickerson and Homer and Mary Lee Robinson; father and mother-in-law, Bobby and Robbie Pitt; and his beloved nephews, Eric and Josh Dickerson.
Phillip is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Teresa (Pitt) Dickerson; his children, Kelly (Alex) Anderson, Leah (Blake) Satterfield and Wade (Nikki) Dickerson; his cherished grandchildren, Dhruv, Sylvie, Webb and Graham. He also leaves behind honorary grandchildren, Caroline, Olivia, Anne Marie, Ava and Haynes. He is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Jerry (Mary) Dickerson and Randy (Leslie) Dickerson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.
A proud graduate of Trousdale County High School, Class of 1972, Phillip went on to earn a degree in Plant and Soil Science from Tennessee Tech University. For 40 years, he worked as a licensed professional soil scientist across Middle Tennessee, was a dedicated member and at one point the president of the Soil Scientist Association of Tennessee.
On March 17, 1979, Phillip married the love of his life, Teresa. They built a loving home in Hartsville where they raised their three children. An avid outdoorsman in his younger years, Phillip loved hunting and hiking the hills near his childhood home. He loved vacationing with his family, the Tennessee Titans and his barn that he decorated for his family to enjoy.
Later in life, he found great joy in cooking and was known for his Sunday night family dinners — a tradition that brought his loved ones together week after week. He found a passion for traveling out West and spoke so fondly of those trips with his family even in his last days.
Phillip’s greatest passion was his family. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering love and a servant’s heart. His kindness, generosity and faith were evident in everything he did. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
