The Trousdale County High School football team recently had a couple scrimmages as it gets ready for the upcoming season.
At White House-Heritage on Aug. 8, the Yellow Jackets basically fought to a draw with their 3A opponent as each team scored two touchdowns with the varsity players on the field.
“We went up against a good football team in White House-Heritage,†TCHS Coach Kyle Gregory said. “Our guys competed hard and showed noticeable improvement from last week’s scrimmage, which is exactly what we want to see.â€â€™
Tuesday at home against Watertown, the Jackets continued to show some improvements as they put three touchdowns on the board while holding the Purple Tigers to only one.
“It’s always great to be back on the Creekbank,†Gregory added. “Our guys played hard and we were able to get in some valuable special teams work, which was a good test run before the season kicks off for us. Overall, it was a productive night with Watertown.â€
The Hartsville boys will open their 2025 regular season on Friday, Aug. 22 with a trip to Possum Town for a matchup with Friendship Christian.
The Commanders went 6-4 last year and lost 35-28 in the second round of the Dll-A playoffs to DCA. They are led by junior quarterback Blake Waldorf who passed for over 2,500 yards in 2024 at Watertown. But the player that the college scouts are interested is junior lineman Kaden Buchanan (6-5, 295) who has drawn the attention of some SEC schools including Kentucky and Missouri.
The Commanders are believed to have enough talent to make it to the state championship game in Chattanooga.
The 7:30 pm kickoff will pit two former region rivals against each other. They have met 34 times on the gridiron with the Jackets holding a 24-10 edge.
In their last meeting in 2022 on the Creekbank, Coach John McNeil’s boys came away with a 40-12 win. The previous year the Jackets prevailed with a 12-10 victory at FCS.
The game can be heard live on WTNK 93.5 and 93.9 FM, 1090 AM, and Facebook live.
