State Rep. William Slater, R-Gallatin, and State Sen. Ferrell Haile, R-Gallatin, have announced new discounts are available to veterans of the United States armed forces at Tennessee state parks.
"The United States continues to prosper and enjoy unrivaled freedoms thanks to the tens of millions of men and women who have honorably served in uniform," the lawmakers said. "More than 440,000 veterans who have fought for the values that make America great call Tennessee home, exemplifying the ethos of the Volunteer State. No savings or benefits will ever compare to their courage and sacrifice, but these discounts are one small way of expressing the gratitude of our state and nation."
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation unveiled the changes this month following a proposal by the two lawmakers that sought to honor Tennessee veterans. Available discounts include:
• 25% off nightly campsite rentals from March 1 - November 30
• 50% off nightly campsite rentals from December 1 - February 28/29
• One free night of camping on Veteran's Day (premium sites excluded)
• 25% off cabin rentals from March 1 - November 30
• 50% off cabin rentals from December 1 - February 28/29 (premium cabins excluded)
• 25% off lodge room rentals year-round (premium rooms excluded)
• 20% off green fees year-round (at state park courses)
• 15% off purchases at park gift shops and golf shops
Discounts apply only to Tennessee resident veterans. Additionally, 100% disabled Tennessee residents will continue to receive 50% off campsite and cabin rentals year-round.
Tennessee has 62 state parks covering more than 250,000 acres of public land. Accommodations include 6 lodges, 36Â campgrounds and 373 cabins, in addition to nine golf courses.
