Mr. John Jay Wender Jr., of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at the age of 92.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jay Hawkins Wender and Nell Perkins Wender; sister, Dottie Rogers; granddaughter, Holly Renee Cornwell; and his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Lynn Ayers Wender.
He was raised in LaFollette, Tennessee. He graduated from LaFollette High School in 1950 and earned a business degree from the University of Tennessee. He served 2 years in the United States Army. He moved to Hartsville in 1958 and became the owner and manager of Hartsville Garment Corporation. He was also an owner in Marc Daniels Shirtmakers in New York. He served on the Board of Directors at Citizens Bank for 40 years. He enjoyed his retirement in Florida.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Charles Wender (Hollins); children, Jan Cornwell (Ricky), John Wesley Wender (Christine), and Nell Chase (Tony); seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church in Hartsville, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at noon conducted by Jack McCall. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monroe Carrell Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
