NASHVILLE — Green Hill returned to the sectional as Region 6-4A runner-up for the second straight year after knocking off host John Overton 4-1 last Saturday in the consolation final at Tucker Field.
Logan Barney’s two-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the second inning, Xander Jackson’s RBI single added insurance as Green Hill advanced to this week’s best-of-3 sectional at Columbia.
Joey Greenstreet pitched the full seven innings for the win. He allowed an unearned run in the second inning on six hits and a walk while striking out 10. He also drove in the Hawks’ first run in the first inning as he doubled and singled for two of Green Hill’s eight hits.
Green Hill opened the tournament Friday with a 7-1 win over District 11 champion Hillsboro. The Burros had earned the right to host the region, but lost out to Overton as Tucker Field has lights.
Jackson Hines held Hillsboro to an unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out seven and hitting one in seven innings.
Green Hill had seven hits and took advantage of four errors, five walks and three hit batters.
Barney had two of the Hawks’ three RBIs. Gage Beasley had two hits while Gabe Gray and Nick Owens Jr. doubled.
That sent Green Hill into Saturday’s championship game against District 12-champion Beech.
Five early walks and an error helped Green Hill take a 3-1 lead in the second inning as Greenstreet was credited with two RBIs.
But the Hawks had just four singles for the day and couldn’t overcome a nightmarish third inning as Green Hill errors helped Beech produce nine runs. GHHS starter Braden Serbin was charged with nine runs, five earned, in eight hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
The Buccaneers, who finished with 14 hits, finished off the Hawks with three runs in the fifth inning to activate the game-ending 10-run rule, sending Green Hill to the consolation final later in the evening.
Sectional start times are at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The “if necessary†game would be at noon Saturday.

Liberty Creek overtakes Purple Tigers in final inning of region consolation final
WATERTOWN — Watertown had just five losses in 2025. But two came in the Region 3-2A tournament and the last one, a 6-5 setback to Liberty Creek in last Saturday’s consolation final, was especially bitter.
The Wolfpack overcame a 5-3 Watertown lead with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Purple Tigers threatened in the bottom of the inning but were turned away with the tying run on second base to end a 27-5 season.
Three Tiger pitchers allowed eight Liberty Creek hits. But Watertown outhit the Wolfpack by one and took advantage of three errors.
Avery Davis drove in two Watertown runs. Chase Young doubled as he and Wyatt Phillips had two hits apiece.
Liberty Creek took a 3-1 lead in the second inning off starter Noah Murphy. The Purple Tigers went up 4-3 in the third and seemed to have a win for reliever Zeb Major. But an insurance score in the sixth wasn’t enough for Watertown as the Wolfpack rallied against C.J.Potter.
Watertown reached the consolation final by ousting District 5-2A rival York Institute 9-0 earlier in the day.
Major pitched six innings for the win, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out six. Luke Vance surrendered a hit in the seventh.
Watertown had eight hits, all singles. Bo Price drove in three runs while Murphy had two RBIs on two hits.
The Purple Tigers fell into the loser’s bracket last Friday with a 2-1 loss to Liberty Creek.
The Wolfpack scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings off of Davis, who allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out five in seven innings.
Watertown also had seven hits, including two by Murphy as he and Garrett Davis doubled.
