A joint proclamation by Wilson County and the City of Lebanon declares next Thursday, May 1, as a Day of Prayer for the county.
Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto put his signature to the proclamation on Monday, and Lebanon Mayor Rick Bell will add his signature when he returns from out-of-town.
In 1952, a joint resolution of the United States Congress was signed into law by President Harry Truman. The law was amended in 1988 by a united congressional vote and signed by President Ronald Reagan designating the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer.
“A National Day of Prayer was first observed by the Second Continental Congress in 1775,†Caron Snider, an NDP team member said. “Therefore, we have both Heaven’s invitation and our government’s authorization to assemble together and pray for Divine intervention in the affairs of our nation.â€
Wilson County National Day of Prayer will be held on May 1, the first Thursday of May, at 7 p.m. at the Made in Tennessee Building at the Wilson County Fairgrounds located at 945 E. Baddour Pkwy. in Lebanon.
“We encourage everyone to attend this free community event,†WCDOP Chair Ronda Wehby said. “This year’s prayer theme for the 74th annual NDP is ‘Pour out to the God of hope and be filled’ taken from Romans 15:13.â€
Key state and community leaders including Senator Mark Pody, State Representative Clark Boyd and Mount Juliet Mayor James Maness will join Mayor Hutto and Mayor Bell at the event.
WCDOP says they encourage everyone to attend and extended an invitation to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church members and others to join in as well.
