A man is in custody after allegedly running from deputies and confronting them while armed with a sword.
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, Wilson County deputies arrived at a residence on Starr Drive to serve a warrant on 42-year-old Cory Rice, of Mt. Juliet, for failure to appear and an attachment for child support.
According to reports, Rice initially refused to exit the home and told deputies he was armed with a sword. Officials say a perimeter was established around the residence, prompting Rice to flee from the back of the residence — sword in hand.
After a brief foot chase, Rice allegedly turned around to confront deputies “in a threatening manner.†Deputies gave multiple warnings before a TASER was deployed on Rice to safely subdue him.
Rice was taken into custody and transported by Wilson County Emergency Management Agency to Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital for medical evaluation and removal of the TASER probes.
Rice is being held in the Wilson County Jail on a $28,000 bond.
