The next day the Hartsville boys hosted the Lions and got the win 12-2 in five innings. They put up six runs in the second inning, one in the fourth and five more in the fifth to raise their record to 6-1.
McGuire got two hits in his four at-bats, had one RBI and scored three runs. Caden Bush, Wright, Cothron, Fruchey and Scruggs each added one hit.
Malmin picked up the win on the mound as he went the final four innings getting five strike outs while rendering no hits.
“Our boys played well. It is always nice to start district play with a couple wins,†TCHS Coach Cidney Cozart said. “We just have to keep improving and trying to do the little things right. Being consistent with our energy and our effort every time we are at the ball park.â€
