The Trousdale County High School softball team enjoyed a good home win last week then traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama for five tournament games this week.
In Hartsville against Macon County on March 18, the Lady Jackets jumped on the Tigerettes quickly then finished the game with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 10-0 win. They plated four runs in the first inning and five more in the second against their 3A opponent.
“Our girls played great tonightâ€, TCHS Coach Sean Link said. “We had clean defense with zero errors and Oakley McCall was absolutely stellar in the circle. We talked about the corrections we needed to make from the last game and they executed perfectly. I’m proud of the way our team showed up and played.’
Sophomore Oakley McCall went three for three with two RBI and was also the winning pitcher as she tossed a complete game two hitter with 11 strike outs. Classmate Madi Pilewicz added three hits with her four at-bats. Maggie Linville had two hits while Madeline Wilson, Caroline Eden and McKenna Lee each produced one. Wilson’s hit was a two-run home run in the first inning.
The Hartsville girls started their tournament run Monday with a couple games. They lost 8-1 to a 5A team, Greene County Tech from Paragould, Arkansas and had only three hits that were turned in by Wilson with two and Ray with one.
Later in the day the Lady Jackets bounced back with an 11-3 win in four innings over the Ariton Lady Purple Cats from Alabama. They scored seven runs in the first inning and four more in the third.
Pilewicz, Ray and McCall came up with two hits apiece plus Wilson had one.
McCall picked up the win in the circle as she rang up eight strike outs while giving up five hits and three earned runs.
On Tuesday the Trousdale County girls fell to the Boaz (Alabama) Lady Pirates 7-1. Lee went two for three while Pilewicz and Ray each added one hit.
Also on Tuesday the Lady Jackets fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, but later rallied for a 6-4 win over the Childerburg Lady Tigers from Alabama. They scored three runs in the third inning then one in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
Sophomore Maggie Linville had a good game at the plate as she went three for four with one RBI and one run scored. Pilewicz, Wilson, Ray and Carley Batey each added two hits as Lee had one.
McCall pitched final two innings and got the win. She rendered no hits and collected two strike outs.
The Lady Jackets entered the single elimination tournament as the number 24 seed and had to face the Vestavia Lady Rebels, the number four ranked 7A team in Alabama early Wednesday morning. They trailed 3-2 at the end of the first inning and later gave up three runs in the third en route to a 6-2 loss.
Coach Link’s girls produced four hits, but also committed two errors. Pilewicz garnered two hits in two at-bats and scored one run. Wilson and Eden had the other two hits for the purple and gold.
The Lady Jackets will take a 6-4 record into their game at Station Camp on Monday and are scheduled to play their first Distict 8-A game on Tuesday at Gordonsville.
