The Trousdale County Board of Education voted this month voted unanimously to accept a donation from Wilson Bank and Trust that includes the purchase of two scoreboards — one for Trousdale County High School and one for the middle school. The cost of the scoreboards is approximately $12,000. The district will be responsible for about $1,400 in costs that include shipping and installation fees. The board expressed their appreciation for corporate and community sponsors that support the district’s athletic and educational programs.
Openings within the district include certified teaching staff, support staff and administrative staff. Dr. Clint Satterfield, Director of Schools, noted that the district is working with the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) to guide their upcoming Director’s search. The TSBA assists its members by providing a process for finding and hiring a superintendent for their district. The application window for this position opens June 30 and remains open for 30 days.
Trousdale County registers all students through an online process on the district’s website. Parents of students that are new to the district are encouraged to complete the registration process for their students now. Presently, the district has received approximately 20 new student registrations. Returning students will be able to register online starting July 7.
Trousdale County parent Cheri Hewgley urged the Board of Education to consider allowing homeschooled students to participate in Marching Band and Color Guard. Hewgley noted the educational and motivational benefits students receive through these programs.
“My daughter has learning disabilities and for this upcoming year, I feel that attending the new Peterson Learning Center will best suit her educational needs,†said Hewgley. “Band motivates my daughter. Without band, she shuts down. With sports, there are options with private sports leagues. In the State of Tennessee, there are no private options for Marching Band or Color Guard participation by homeschool students.â€
Chairman Johnny Kerr noted that the board would take Hewgley’s comments under consideration and make their decision. The board will have Dr. Satterfield contact Hewgley with their decision.
