Macon County citizens voiced their concerns on social media about multiple damages to vehicles that happened in the road work zone on Highway 52 East between Red Boiling Springs and Lafayette.
“My brand-new car is scratched, and another has a messed-up windshield,†said Alexandria Hunt. “It isn’t from following too closely, it is coming from the cars in the other lane.â€
“We have been going around it,†said James Rodger Daughtry. “I have never seen the road paved like that before. It looks like they are putting glue down with gravel on it. I have always seen them cut the asphalt down then put new on it.â€
“My husband travels from Celina to Lafayette for work every day and he said it is dangerous the way they have just left the road the way they have,†said Amber Bull. “He was driving 40 miles per hour, and his car was all over the road.â€
Mayor Steve Jones says that he has been in contact with Tennessee State Representative Kelly Keisling about the matter.
“I have had several calls about the highway between Lafayette and Red Boiling Springs,†said Jones. “Although it isn’t under our jurisdiction, I did contact Representative Keisling. The process is called Micro Paving. The State contracted the work out to the company Asphalt Paving Solutions, and he tells me that it is they who are responsible. I will give you their contact information so you can share that with the public. I was told a couple months ago that they would be paving from Todd Avenue to the bridge on 52. They also have the contract to pave Union Camp Road. They did a nice heavy-duty job on Union Camp.
“I have had multiple calls about cracked windshields due to the way they are paving out there on 52. I know Kelly (Keisling) has had calls as well,†he said. “He and I were on the phone with TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation) for quite a while and they’re saying that it’s just a cheaper way of paving that they are looking at to make the money go further for repairs. I am as aggravated as everyone else is. I don’t like it at all. I was told that they tried this years back and it didn’t work out and that they weren’t going to do this anymore. Like I said, I do not like this any more than everyone else, it’s awful.â€
