The Armour Hotel in Historic Red Boiling Springs is one of three historic hotels left standing in the area.

Although it might be hard to believe now, the smallest city in Macon County, Red Boiling Springs, was once an epicenter of culture and high societal living. The warm and hot months saw people from all over the world coming to enjoy its unique charm.

From very early on, it was the water that initially drew attention from near and far. It is commonly known that Edmund Jennings was among the first to find the valley as he traveled worn animal trails as he was a hunter. Supposedly, he came upon a dry salt lick where he saw animals gathered and licking the salt. This area would become known as Salt Lick after the Salt Lick Creek was named.
