The man accused of firing dozens of rounds into the former home of Global Vision Bible Church in 2024 pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless endangerment in a court hearing on Jan. 12.
Tyler Poole, 21, of Hermitage, was scheduled to begin a jury trial in March on seven counts, but entered a guilty plea on three with the four others being dismissed. According to the DA’s office, prosecution offered the sentence, which the court agreed to.
Poole was accused of firing 67 rounds from an automatic weapon into the former home of Greg Locke in the Mt. Juliet area on Sept. 3, 2024. This was during a time where Locke gained national attention for controversial church sermons and repeated noise complaints against the church, which held service in a tent on Old Lebanon Dirt Road before moving to Lebanon.
Poole was sentenced to five years for the aggravated assault charge and two years for each reckless endangerment charge, which will be served concurrently. As per state law, Poole receives credit for time served. He’s been in custody since Dec. 4, 2024. Poole is eligible for parole after serving 85% of his sentence in 2029.
According to Assistant District Attorney Tammy Meade, Locke was not the target—it was his stepson, Caden McGee.
“I know that night and early on into the investigation and even today people want to believe Greg Locke was the target,†Meade said. “He was not. This had nothing to do with Greg or the church.â€
“Poole and [the step-son] were acquaintances…and there had been some kind of beef between Poole and his friends and the step-son and his friends,†Meade continued. “Poole made a dumb decision, a bad decision, a dangerous decision.â€
“After a cookout in Nashville, the step-son had come home to the house and that’s when Poole came by and fired 67 rounds that hit the house and cars,†Meade added.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, found more than 60 shell casings from an automatic weapon and reported that one resident was at the home when the shooting took place—Locke’s stepson. No one was injured during the incident. Locke and his wife returned home shortly after.
According to Locke, his family has no ill feelings towards Poole, and says they are praying for him.
