James C. Newberry was born into this world on April 25, 1932, in Macon County, Tennessee, to the late Andrew Alsup Newberry and Katie C. Brooks Newberry.
On Aug. 28, 2025, at the age of 93 years, four months, and three days, James peacefully departed this life and entered his Heavenly Home. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his twin infant sister, Helen Newberry; brothers, Bernice Newberry and Clestee Newberry; sisters, Ruby Clark and Christine Brown; and nephew, Lowell Newberry.
On Jan. 10, 1955, James married the love of his life, Helen Marie Wakefield. Together they shared more than 70 wonderful years of marriage, building a home filled with love, devotion, and lasting memories. Their union was a shining example of commitment, faithfulness and the strength of family.
James dedicated his working life as a skilled mechanic for Mr. Clay Thomas at Macon Hardwood Lumber. He retired in 1997 after 40 years of loyal and dependable service, remembered by his co-workers for his work ethic, reliability, and humble spirit.
A man of deep faith, James was a devoted and faithful member of the Willette Church of Christ. His Christian Walk was evident in the way he lived — with kindness, integrity, and a servant’s heart. He found great joy in both his spiritual family and his loved ones at home. In his spare time, James could often be found working on machinery, a pastime that reflected both his mechanical skill and his enjoyment of keeping things in working order.
Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and his church family, always offering love, encouragement, and quiet wisdom. James leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to his loved ones. His gentle spirit and steadfast presence will be dearly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
James C. Newberry is survived by his wife, Helen Wakefield Newberry; son, Lynn Newberry and wife, Judy; daughter, Tammy Jenkins and husband, Johnny; granddaughter, Amber Eden and husband, Colton; grandson, Jalen Jenkins; and great-granddaughter, Adley Eden. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
