A fatal crash closed a portion of Interstate 40 West between Sparta Pike and Cumberland Street Tuesday morning around 6 a.m. Lebanon Police reported the lanes were open around 9 a.m.
The crash happened around mile marker 239, which is the Sparta Pike exit, causing traffic backups for nearly six miles. Authorities advised motorists attempting to travel through the area to seek alternate routes
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the crash involved three commercial vehicles. A witness said a vehicle hit a stopped flatbed truck and was then struck by another vehicle directly behind it.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Authorities did not say what caused the crash by time of print or the extent of any other injuries.
